Venue General FAQ

  • Sons of Mary is located at 14 Spink Street, Brighton VIC 3186, on a quiet street close to Gardenvale Station. Street parking is available nearby, please check local signage for time limits. We're easy to reach from across the Bayside suburbs and inner Melbourne.

  • Sons of Mary is a welcoming Brighton restaurant, café and bar serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week. The venue offers cosy indoor spaces, covered outdoor and footpath dining, a full bar, coffee, group dining and private functions, making it one of Brighton's most versatile neighbourhood destinations.

  • Sons of Mary is open:

    • Monday to Saturday: 7am to 10pm

    • Sunday: 7am to 4pm

     

    Kitchen serves:

    • Breakfast: 7am to 12pm

    • Lunch: 12pm to 3pm

    • Snacks & Bites: 3pm to 5pm

    • Dinner: 5pm to late (Monday to Saturday)

  • Monday from 5pm: Steak Frites: $28, with the full menu also available

    • Wednesday from 5pm: Sons of the Sea: rotating seafood dishes, the signature Seafood Linguine and wine specials.

  • Yes. Happy Hour runs Monday to Saturday, 3–5:30pm, with selected cocktails, wines, beers and spirits at special prices. Current offers include:

    • $15 Margaritas and Aperol Spritz

    • $8 selected wines and schooners

    • $12 Guinness

    • $16 Negroni

  • Yes. Sons of Mary serves all-day dining from 7am, seven days a week. Our menus feature modern Australian dishes, seasonal produce, café favourites, shared plates, seafood, pasta, steaks and desserts.

    • Breakfast: 7am to 12pm

    • Snacks & Bites: 3pm to 5pm

  • Yes. Vegetarian, vegan option, gluten-friendly option, nut-free option and dairy-free option dishes are clearly identified on our menus.

    Please note: Sons of Mary is not a nut, seafood, shellfish, egg, gluten, wheat-flour or dairy-free environment. Guests with allergies or serious dietary requirements should speak with a team member before ordering so we can best assist you. 

  • Yes. Sons of Mary is wheelchair accessible at ground level, with ambulant bathrooms also available on-site.

  • Yes! Well-behaved dogs are welcome in our outdoor patio and alfresco dining areas. Please let our team know in advance if you'd like to bring your dog along.

  • Yes, we're open on all public holidays. Please note:

    • A 15% surcharge applies on public holidays

    • A 10% surcharge applies on Sundays 

    Trading hours may vary around the holiday season. We recommend checking our website or social media for the latest updates.

  • Yes. Sons of Mary warmly welcomes families. We offer a kids' menu with children's meals and dessert options. Highchairs are available, just let a team member know on arrival or indicate it when booking and we'll have one ready. Change tables are also available on-site for guests with little ones.

  • Yes. Sons of Mary has a covered outdoor patio and footpath dining, making it a great spot year-round. Our outdoor spaces are equipped with heaters to keep guests comfortable through the cooler months.

Bookings FAQ

  • Bookings are recommended, particularly for dinner, weekly specials nights, weekends and larger groups. Walk-ins may be accommodated subject to availability, but securing a table in advance is always the best way to avoid disappointment. Reservations can be made through the Book a Table link on sonsofmary.com.au.

  • Standard dining reservations are allocated a 1.5-hour booking duration. If you require additional time, please contact our team and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.

  • Yes. Sons of Mary welcomes larger groups for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, with indoor and outdoor options available. Group dining menus can be tailored to your needs. To ensure the best experience for the table, groups of 13 or more guests are required to dine on one of our set menus. Most dietary requirements can be accommodated.

  • Yes. For groups of 10–20 guests looking for a more casual bar experience, we can reserve a dedicated area with a combination of seating and standing room, subject to availability.

  • Yes. Sons of Mary offers full table service for dining, our team will come to you to take your order and look after you throughout your visit.

  • Yes. If you need to change or cancel your booking, please update it through your booking confirmation email or contact our team on (03) 9039 5707. We kindly ask that you give us as much notice as possible, particularly for larger groups. Please note that cancellation fees may apply to group bookings, special events or prepaid experiences, as outlined at the time of booking.

  • Yes. Sons of Mary is a popular Brighton venue for private functions and celebrations, with indoor and outdoor spaces available. We host cocktail parties, group lunches and dinners, birthday parties, engagement celebrations, work events, Christmas parties and more.

    The venue accommodates approximately 100 guests seated or around 250 guests standing, with exclusive venue hire available every day of the week.

  • Sons of Mary offers flexible function catering to suit different event styles:

    • Canapé packages: 5-piece canapé from $35pp; 7-piece canapé from $45pp, ideal for cocktail-style events

    • Group dining menus: shared starters, a choice of mains, shared sides and optional desserts, suitable for seated lunches and dinners

  • Sons of Mary offers a range of beverage packages to suit your event:

    Standard package (beer, house wines and soft drinks):

    • $58pp for 3 hours

    • $68pp for 4 hours

    Premium package:

    • $73pp for 3 hours

    • $83pp for 4 hours

    Selected spirits add-ons are also available. Alternatively, you can open a bar tab with a set spending limit, simply discuss this with our events team when planning your event.

  • Submit the function enquiry form, and our functions team will respond promptly to discuss your date, guest numbers, space, menu and any other requirements.

    We recommend inquiring as early as possible, particularly for weekend dates, peak seasons (November through January) and larger spaces, which book out quickly. Enquiring 3–6 months in advance is ideal for significant events, though we'll do our best to accommodate shorter lead times where availability permits.

  • Yes. Many of our spaces can be decorated and personalised to suit your theme. Please discuss your plans with our events team ahead of the event so we can advise on what's permitted, arrange setup access and ensure everything runs smoothly on the day.

  • Yes. You're welcome to bring a celebration cake to your function. We'll take care of the cutting, plating and serving, with cream and coulis included. A cake cutting fee of $3 per person applies.

  • Yes. A deposit is required to confirm your booking and secure your preferred date and space. Our events team will provide full details on deposit amounts and payment terms when confirming your event.

  • We understand guest numbers can change. Please keep our events team updated as your event approaches, final numbers are typically required a few days before your event. Our team will advise on any minimum spend requirements that may apply to your chosen space.
